17.8 The Kings of Judah

The following is a chart of the kings of Judah, and their relation to the Covenant. Early in the list were four good kings, David, Solomon, Asa, and Jehoshaphat. These kings were good, but not perfect. Following this there were only two more good kings "Hezakiah and Josiah. All the rest were wicked and idolatrous, leading the nation deeper into apostasy until there was no remedy, and they were taken into captivity by Babylon.

3. Kings of Judah

King yr Covenant
Saul 40 1 Sam 10-12 Holy Spirit made Saul a new man. He failed the Covenant due to pride.
David 40 His throne to be established "for ever." (1)
Solomon 40 The Covenant is renewed with conditions. (2)
Rehoboam 17 Wicked reign. Kingdom divided. Israel chose idolatry under Jeroboam.
Abijam 22 Military victory over Jeroboam. 2 Chron 13.
Asa 41 2 Chron 15:12 Covenant to seek the Lord. Alliance with Syria.
Jehoshaphat 25 Walked in the ways of David. Taught the book of the law. Alliance with Ahab.
Jehoram 8 Slew his brothers. Wicked like Israel. Husband of Athaliah.
Ahaziah * 1 Wicked like Ahab. Killed by Jehu on a visit to Jezreel.
Athaliah 1 Wicked, daughter of Ahab. Killed all the kings sons except Joash.
Joash * 40 A good king while Jehoiada lived. Jehoiada makes a covenant with God.
Amaziah 29 Turned to idolatry and military ambitions.
Uzziah 52 Started well, prospered, victorious. Tried to offer incense, became leprous.
Jotham 16 an OK king. He entered not into the temple, people did corruptly.
Ahaz 16 A weak idolatrous king. Judah ravaged by repeated invasions.
Hezekiah 29 Covenant made. Temple service restored. Passover for Judah and Israel.
Manasseh 55 Idolatrous king. Captured by Assyrians, repented, returned to Jerusalem
Amon 2 Wicked king.
Josiah 31 Found book of the law, covenant to serve God. Idols & groves removed.
Jehoahaz 3 m Ruled three months. Deposed by Egypt.
Jehoiakim 11 Wicked king. Taken captive to Babylon.
Jehoiachin 3 m Wicked king. Taken captive to Babylon.
Zedekiah 11 Wicked king, taken captive. Jeremiah persecuted. Jerusalem destroyed.
